Episcopal Willigis High School in Germany Conducts Trials in Cooperation with the University of Aalen and Switzerland based SGS in order to reopen schools due to Covid-19 lockdown.
On initiative of Parents, the Episcopal Willigis High School (https://www.willigis-online.de/) conducted trials with ETS Air Purification Systems distributed by its partner DEMA-airtech GmbH (https://www.dema-airtech.com/en/). Target of these trials was to find out about the efficacy of portable Air Purification Systems. The cooperation between the Highschool, the University of Aalen (https://www.hs-aalen.de/en/), SGS and DEMA-airtech GmbH materialized after parents were looking for ways of how to reopen schools and feeling left behind by politics. Under supervision of SGS, the trials were conducted in a real classroom environment with an air volume of up to 7,330 m3 and no possibility of natural ventilation. The presence of pupils was simulated by installing 20pcs of 100 W lightbulbs emitting the equivalent amount of heat as 20 students would do. Furthermore an Aerosol Generator was set up in order to simulate the realistic load of aerosols. Especially for these trials the Aerosol load was increased to the ten fold value usually present in a classroom. The results showed that within 15 minutes the aerosol load was reduced to half of its initial value. After 60 minutes the entire aerosol load had been removed from the room air. The trials were conducted by using an ETS Air Purifier AP-160.
